Based on the 2010 version of the CONSORT Statement and the 2008 CONSORT for Abstracts Statement this newly published CONSORT extension provides updated and extended guidance for the reporting of cluster randomised trials. This guideline updates the previously published 2004 CONSORT extension for cluster randomised trials and includes 6 important changes.
